Marlborough was selected by the main contractors Quarmby to provide the Masonry Package to construct and refurbish Electric Press, Millennium Square, Leeds.
The development at Electric Press will evolve the building, with its famous chimney, Portland and Stanfield Chambers into a 350 seat theatre, restaurants, bars, quality offices and the new home of the Leeds Metropolitian University School of Film, Television and Performing Arts.
In the refurbishment elements of our works Marlborough faces additional challenges to replace historical features, including old-style brick arches, and match existing brickwork in a sympathetic manner. To ensure a blended final product Marlborough is using a dizzying combination of five brick types. While the theatre has a Cattybrook Brunswick Farmhouse mixture in new metric sizes, the stately courtyard is beind built with a 30%-70% mix of baggeridge Autumn Multi and Oast brickwork in new imperial sizes (73mm). The Cores and North Stansfield Rebuild meanwhile are benefiting from a mix of reclaimed Terca bricks in old imperial (80mm) sizes.
The Electric Press is due to open for business later this year with the theatre opening in 2005.
