The Next Generation - Construction Apprenticeships

The Next Generation - Construction Apprenticeships

As part of Marlborough's commitment to the future of the construction industry, & continued success of the company, we operate a Construction Apprenticeship scheme. The scheme concentrates on recruiting & training the next generation of high calibre young operatives & contributing to an ever-changing industrial nation.

Over the 10 years Marlborough has been operating we have consistently offered apprenticeships & now the scheme is so successful that we have recently bought a specially designed minibus (sporting the tongue-in-cheek tag line The Next Generation) to transport our apprentice workforce around our projects. We have also extended our involvement to incorporate Open Days for current & potential trainees & their parents & now have an experienced member of our site supervision working as a full time mentor to our apprentices.

Supported by the CITB, Marlborough recruits up to 5 trainees every June, providing a 3-month induction period when practical experience is gained prior to enrolling at college. Once at college, on block or day release, apprentices continue to gain both theoretical & practical knowledge working on Marlborough projects & building up a portfolio of evidence.

Marlborough takes a keen interest in the development of its apprentices, actively encouraging them to continue their education on to Level 3 NVQ & beyond to HNC and Degree levels. Paul Donnelly, Marlborough's MD, is also Chairman of the CITB NVQ Occupational Working Group for Trowel Occupations, providing Marlborough with an input into the future content and structure of masonry NVQs.
